About Cox & Barnard
Having being established as a company for over 90 years, Cox & Barnard still use virtually the same techniques to make Stained Glass windows that have been used through the ages, and every window produced by us is an individual, either in colour, size or design. All of the work is carried out by hand by our Craftsmen none of it is mechanised.
Any subject or any combination of colours can be catered for, in traditional or modern styles. A visit to our Showrooms to see our wide range of original designs will open up a whole vista of ideas.
The use of traditional Leaded Light windows can bring character to a house or a cottage. The appearance from the outside of, for example, diamond panes when added can give a multi-faceted look where sunlight strikes, whereas previously the windows looked flat and uninteresting.
Leaded Lights can be made in a variety of patterns: diamond or rectangular panes, geometric shapes, lozenge type and other lacey designs. Also in a choice of glasses: from clear, through the standard obscured glasses, to coloured, antique or mouthblown glass.
Restoration
Cox & Barnard also specialise in the restoration of Stained Glass and Leaded Lights. This can be as small a job as the repairing of one broken pane in situ, to taking a complete window out of stonework, wood, or its metal frame and releading this entirely; also matching and reproducing exactly any broken painted pieces. Alternatively, valuable damaged glass can be sandwiched or plated, or the cracked pieces joined with copper foil. We can also extend or reduce the area of a customer's existing Stained Glass or Leaded Light.
Today's use of Stained Glass
The beauty of Stained Glass will enhance any surroundings. In the stairways and reception areas of public buildings . . . in restaurants, recalling Edwardian splendour or highlighting a modern interior decor . . . in offices, banks and display-conscious shops where style and ambience are vital . . . in hotels and public houses and in the home - for decorative panels or screens, for feature windows, in hallways and on staircase landings, even in lampshades.
